May 23rd: ACIFA Conference Wrap-Up
New Start Time for SAFA AGM
SAFA congratulates the over 200 instructors who were nominated for a Saitsa Instructor Excellence Award. In order to not be in conflict with the upcoming SAIT/SAITSA reception, we will be moving our annual general meeting time.
Please note the AGM will now run 3:45-5:00pm on Wednesday, May 31st. This will be a hybrid event, with quorum determined by the number of members in attendance in-person and online.
Please contact Kathie Dann if you would like to attend the in-person meeting in NN105. Online access will be available via http://bit.ly/43pW9kK. All SAFA members are encouraged to attend.

ACIFA Conference Wrap-Up
Almost 30 SAFA members attended this year’s conference from May 7-9, 2023, in Lake Louise. The location was beautiful, and the sessions were inspiring!
“On every occasion, the ACIFA conference expands my understanding of familiar topics while introducing me to entirely new ideas. And similarly, on every occasion, I further a relationship with a colleague and meet someone new. This year, I was introduced to a different way of using case studies in the classroom. I am now in the process of connecting my faculty colleagues with this presenter to learn more. This is why I go, and always look forward to going again!” – Patrick Johnston
Some of the highlights from the conference include:
- Cameron Gall, SAFA Treasurer, being acclaimed to continue in the position of ACIFA Vice President of Finance.
- Heather Setka (Communications and Liberal Arts Studies) presenting her award-winning research, Women Teaching Men.
- A fun night of a hypnotist’s show and DJ music after Monday’s banquet.
Next year’s conference will be hosted by NAIT Academic Staff Association at Jasper Park Lodge on May 11-15, 2024. Watch for more information to be sent out in the fall.
