Membership

The SAIT Faculty Association represents and serves the approximately 1200 academic staff members at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.  All permanent, limited-term, and contract faculty are members of SAFA, as are librarians, counsellors, and education developers.   Such membership begins on the date of commencement of appointment.

Membership in SAFA entitles you to representation from SAFA in collective bargaining.  As well, SAFA provides confidential advice, assistance, and representation of our members regarding issues of grievances, faculty welfare, and instructional processes – this includes representation of members needing workplace accommodation (e.g. medical) or facing potential discipline.  All members may attend all general meetings and social functions, vote at elections and on contract ratification, and receive notices and newsletters.

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting is held in May/June each year. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce a new Executive, present the proposed operating and capital budget, the adoption of dues, and, the election of an independent outside auditor.

Association Fees

The Post-Secondary Learning Act authorizes and requires all instructors at all the Post-Secondary colleges and technical institutes in Alberta to associate professionally and toward that end, to set, collect and manage Association Fees.

Academic staff at SAIT are required to pay SAFA dues which are 1.4% of your gross earnings. SAFA dues are an eligible income tax deduction in the professional dues category. Staff pay stubs should identify the deduction as SAFA dues.
