Is Your Workload Unfair? You have Rights!
Does the phrase workload assignment fill you with dread? Are the workload hours not realistic for the actual work you do? Do you feel that info is missing from the assignments you receive? Don’t accept this as the status quo…
Never forget that you now have power to impact your Workload assignment. You have a clear process to file a complaint if:
- You were not given your workload assignment at least 4 work weeks before the start of that assignment.
- Your workload assignment does not contain the minimum information including CCH, course name/number, and instruction mode.
- You feel that the Academic Chair did not consider the number of new course preps you have been assigned.
- You feel that the Academic Chair did not reduce the workload when the number of students in a section increased.
- You feel the Academic Chair did not leave sufficient time for professional duties, curriculum development, or scholarly activity that’s been assigned to you.
The full workload guidelines that must be followed are available on SAITNow. Don’t forget, though, that there are timelines to follow. Once you’ve received a workload assignment, you only have 5 working days to submit concerns to your Academic Chair. Questions about the process? Contact your SAFA Representative and take control of your workload!

Pay Raise to Come into Effect December 1st
Don’t forget – our next pay raise will take effect in December! Check your mid-month paystub to ensure you receive your 1.5% pay increase. This raise applies to all full and part-time permanent salaried, temporary salaried, and casual academic staff members. This is the second of three potential pay increases bargained for in the last round of negotiations. The last increase is set to be announced in February 2024 (retroactive to December 1st, 2023), based on a “Gain Sharing Formula”. The salary schedules (Section 50) and the “Gain Sharing Formula” (Section 2) can be found in our current Collective Agreement.
