SAFA Membership Update: April 28th

Important Survey for Faculty Members

SAFA is encouraging all instructors to complete an important survey about industry recognized credentials held by classroom faculty.  This survey is being issued by a joint SAFA/SAIT committee that has been tasked with reviewing government issued and industry standard certifications to assess their relevance to faculty roles.  While listing credentials in this survey does not mean it will qualify for Education Allowance at this time, it will provide valuable information for a review and potential update.

Please provide your feedback by Thursday, April 30, 2026. Your participation is voluntary and – individual responses will remain anonymous. Click on the link below to proceed.

Mental Health Week Reminder: Connection Matter

Mental Health Week runs May 4–10, 2026, and this year’s Canadian Mental Health Association theme is Come Together, Canada: Stronger connections, better mental health.

It’s a timely reminder for SAFA members, as we all have been navigating a difficult period marked by restructuring, workload pressures, uncertainty, and changes across departments and schools. During times like these, connection matters.  Over the coming week, consider reaching out to a colleague, checking in with someone who may be having a hard time, or making space for a supportive conversation. Small actions can make a meaningful difference.

Next week, SAFA will share more about Mental Health Week and why healthy workplaces require both personal support and fair working conditions.

SAFA Office Update: Conference Week Contact Information

Next week, several of SAFA’s representatives and staff will be attending the ACIFA Conference.  During this time, members needing assistance are encouraged to contact [email protected] as the best first point of contact. This will help ensure inquiries are directed appropriately and responded to as quickly as possible.

Please note that response times from Craig Coolahan, SAFA’s Labour Relations Officer, and Blair Howes, SAFA President, may be slower than usual next week while they are away from the office.
