Advanced Education – Covid-19 update, September 20, 2021
Effective immediately, the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) has signed a new Public Health Order (attached) outlining specific exemptions to the current COVID-19 restrictions that apply to the post-secondary sector. The Health Order is designed to ensure that in-person post-secondary operations can continue immediately provided outlined conditions are followed. This Health Order will be posted to www.alberta.ca shortly, and the website provides the latest guidance on COVID-19 measures. We will continue to keep you updated on any further updates that impact the post-secondary sector.
While post-secondary institutions that have already undertaken actions to meet the conditions, or are prepared to adopt the conditions immediately, will be exempt from the present restrictions, it is expected that institutions will be responsible for ensuring their proof of vaccine policies are implemented and all implicated individuals are complying. Recognizing that post-secondary providers are positioned to develop and implement health and safety measures that are appropriate for their community, providers have the ability to continue to implement their own programs as long as they comply with the conditions outlined by the CMOH for the post-secondary sector.
Post-secondary providers that choose not to implement a proof of vaccination program will remain subject to the health measures outlined in CMOH Health Order 42-2021.
We are continuing to work through all of the questions that post-secondary providers have shared with us over the past several days, and will provide additional information as soon as possible. We realize this is a very difficult time for students, staff and employers and we appreciate your patience as we all adjust to the restrictions that have been put in place. We recognize that you will likely have additional questions beyond the information shared today, and we encourage you to continue to provide your questions to [email protected] and we will respond as quickly as we can.
