Bargaining Update: January 24th
It’s been 573 days since our Collective Agreement expired on June 30, 2020.
That’s right – SAFA has been waiting for a new agreement for over a year and a half! This process can be lengthy, but it has been extended by SAIT’s delayed initial proposal and missing information. A regular exchange of information was re-established this fall and meaningful conversations have begun. However, there are still issues to be resolved around workload, job security for contingent faculty, and professional practice. Your SAFA negotiating team is especially looking to the employer to negotiate a meaningful compensation package and “put their money where their mouth is” after 18 months of platitudes. The sessions held over the next couple of months will tell us if SAIT is serious and we can work together to develop a fair agreement for all members.
