International Women’s Day
Dear colleagues, please join SAFA in supporting awareness for International Women Day. (IWD) is celebrated every March 8th around the world, which commemorates the movement for women’s rights. The earliest women’s day observance was held February 28, 1909, in New York and organized by the Socialist Party of America. SAIT are very proud of the female delegation within its ranks, from support staff, management, Faculty, custodial workers and students.
I have had the pleasure of befriending numerous women at SAIT over my years, many that have went on to be very successful entrepreneurs within the city of Calgary and beyond. It would be unfair of me to mention specific names in the event that I would do a dishonor to those women that I had mistakenly forgotten. Women continue to leave an indelible footprint here at SAIT both past and present. As the Institution and the SAIT community continue to invest in the skills and knowledge of its people we should remind ourselves that it takes many ideas, hard work and commitment to remain a progressive college on the provincial, national and international stage. The sum of the whole is made up of countless contribution by the dedicated groups at SAIT. Input from all genders is paramount for the legacy SAIT will leave as a leader in the world of education.
If you wish to view and read the incredible contributions women have made to SAIT, their stories and images can be found on Google under “Images for successful women at SAIT”.
Two quotes I believe speak to all of us:-
“Far too many people are looking for the right person, instead of trying to be the right person”.
-Gloria Steinem.
“Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the differences you make in people’s lives”.
-Michelle Obama
SAFA President, James McWilliams.
