Update to Membership May 3, 2021
Take Time for Your Health
As a follow up to SAIT’s message regarding time off for the COVID vaccination, SAFA would like to remind members that full-time academic staff may have time off to attend any dental, optical, physiotherapeutic, or medical appointment—this will not impact sick time allocation nor be deducted from pay, provided:
“(a) the member has been given prior authorization by the Dean/Director or designee (non-academic staff member), and
(b) the member works one (1) hour in a half day absence. A half-day absence is a consecutive four (4) hour period of time prior to or after the mid-point of the academic staff member’s workday.” (Section 22, SAFA Collective Agreement)
If you feel that you’ve been unfairly denied time off for necessary medical appointments, please contact SAFA ([email protected]).
