Mutual Agreement on Scheduling after 6 pm and weekends
Good day Faculty
It has come to my attention that SAIT sent out an email Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, Sept 24, 2020 to everyone looking for Blanket mutual agreement to deliver instruction after 6PM and on Weekends. (I have copied the email that was sent to me at the end of this email for your information.)
SAFA fully understands that there may be a need to schedule some face to face labs or shops outside of the Normal hours of work due to the COVID 19 pandemic. But, to be clear, there is absolutely no reason to schedule online classes that are NOT face to face, outside of the normal hours of work due to COVID 19. And, there is no repercussions to faculty for saying NO to this bogus attempt to circumvent the collective agreement by SAIT.
SAFA has filed a policy grievance regarding SAIT’s failure to attain mutual agreement when scheduling instruction after 6PM and on weekends. The email sent to you by SAIT (copied at the end of this email) does not meet the requirements of the collective agreement:
36.09 Instruction on a Saturday or Sunday or after 6:00 p.m. will be by mutual agreement between the Dean or designee (non-academic staff member) and the instructor.
The Collective Agreement is clear that it MUST be Individual mutual agreement.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

The email sent to you will probably look very similar to this one that was sent to me:
Timetables will be attempting to create winter schedules very soon. They may need to schedule classes outside of the 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday time slots.
Can you please complete the chart below let me know if you have days where you would have to refuse your schedule if classes fell after 6:00 or on a Saturday? Please let me know by Friday, Sept. 25.
Many thanks!
