New Vacation Letter of Understanding
SAIT and SAFA have signed a new Vacation Letter of Understanding, available by clicking here or visiting the webpage Collective Agreement and LOUs.
On June 1st, SAFA and SAIT signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) defining vacation practices for the 2021-2022 Vacation Year. The highlights:
- SAFA has agreed to SAIT’s request to move the Vacation Year to May – April of each year.
- SAIT will allot vacation at the beginning of the Vacation Year, instead of throughout the year. Vacation amounts for members will stay the same as previous years.
- This means members will receive their 2021-2022 vacation allotment now, to be used by April 30, 2022.
- SAFA has ensured that scheduling of vacation leave will be mutually agreed upon by both the member and their leader. Once a plan has been set, it cannot be changed without written mutual agreement.
- Half-day increments may only be used at the member’s request. Leadership cannot require members to take half-days off.
This agreement provides you more protections to take vacation when it fits your work/life balance. The requirement for mutual agreement provides a mechanism to dispute leave mandated by your leadership. If you feel pressured to take vacation at a time not beneficial to you, contact SAFA as soon as possible at [email protected]
