Open Enrollment Period for ARTA begins
SAFA has partnered with ARTA to bring retirees of SAFA a period of time to enroll for supplementary, voluntary medical or travel benefits without proof of medical insurability. There are a number of voluntary benefit options available through the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan.
Open Enrollment dates are April 1 to June 30, 2019. To be approved for coverage during this open enrollment period without medical evidence of insurability, your application must be received by ARTA no later than June 30, 2019.
To be eligible for coverage under the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan, you must apply for and participate in all public health and drug plans for which you are eligible, as ARTA’s Extended Health Care is second payer to any national, provincial or territorial plan. Applicants must be age 55 or older on the effective date of coverage. You will also need to become a member of ARTA.
I have the Alberta Coverage for Seniors plan. Why would I want to enroll in the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan?
The Alberta Coverage for Seniors plan covers many commonly used drugs; however, you pay a portion of the cost which would be covered by the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan. Once registered at your pharmacy, the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan pays for the portion of the cost not covered by the Alberta Seniors’ Drug Plan. (The Alberta Coverage for Seniors plan is administered by Alberta Blue Cross on behalf of Alberta Health).
The ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan also includes coverage for many other supplies and services, such as Emergency Travel Coverage, physiotherapy, and prescription glasses.
