Personal Days
Hi Everyone:
I’ve received several inquiries regarding the implementation of the provision for “personal days” as contained in the new collective agreement, so I thought a quick e-mail to clarify might be in order.
You have 2 personal days per calendar year.
They are not retroactive prior to the ratification of the Collective Agreement.
There is no “carry over” for personal days – in other words “use them or lose them”.
However, you have 2 for 2018 that should be used prior to December 31, 2018.
Then you will have another 2 personal days in 2019 – so you could use them as soon as January 1, 2019.
There isn’t any restrictions contemplated in Section 35.04 of the Collective Agreement except that up to two weeks’ notice may be required. I suggest you give at least two weeks’ notice and more if you can, especially as this is new to SAIT.
35.04 The maximum length specified for each circumstance requiring use of personal leave shall not exceed two (2) working days per calendar year. The use of personal leave does not combine with leaves outlined in Section 35.01 and Section 35.02. Personal leave may require (2) two weeks’ notice and shall not require a detailed explanation for the leave.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Al
