SAFA Membership Message: March 19th

Pay Increase Update: How to Review Your New Salary Details

With the recent pay increase, SAFA is reminding salaried members that they can review the details on their May 14th pay stub.  To access your pay stub:

  • Log into MySAIT
  • Select the MyEmployee portal
  • Under the Employee category, click “Pay Information”
  • Open the Pay Stub screen.

Your March 14th paystub will also include a one-time line entry “Retro-Curr Calendar Year” which lists the retroactive pay covering July 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025.

For employees on Casual contract, retroactive pay will be issued on their March 31st pay, since casual employees are paid in arrears.

If you have questions about your paystub, please contact the HR department at employee.questions@sait.ca, as they can review your specific situation.

A Friendly Reminder: Mutual Agreement Still Applies to Workload

We might have a new Collective Agreement, but don’t forget that mutual agreement remains an essential part of faculty workload assignments.  If you are asked to accept a workload assignment that exceeds the limits set in Section 36.04, you have the right to say NO. Mutual agreement is entirely voluntary, and you should not feel pressured, penalized, or required to accept an assignment beyond the standards set in our contract.

What is Mutual Agreement?

When “mutual agreement” is stated in our CA, it has a specific meaning – that the agreement between the Leadership and the employee must 1) be in writing, 2) document exactly how the CA will be exceeded, and 3) be signed by the employee.  When workload is discussed, all of these requirements are met by the digital Mutual Agreement form.

According to Section 36.04, a Mutual Agreement form must be completed if your assigned Class Contact Hours (CCH) exceed the following limits:

  • More than 4 consecutive hours of CCH in a single day
  • More than 6 total hours of CCH in a single day
  • More than 20 hours or 3% of your annual CCH (whichever is greater) in a single week

Additionally, mutual agreement is required before you can be assigned:

  • CCH that exceeds your annual workload maximum (overload)
  • A substitution for another instructor’s course, if you are already fully loaded

Know Your Rights

If any of the above applies to your workload assignment, you must be consulted and provided with a Mutual Agreement form to review and sign online—it cannot be assumed.

If you are unsure whether a workload request requires mutual agreement, or if you feel pressured to accept an assignment outside of the standard limits, contact your SAFA representative for support.
