Meet Your SAFA Table Officers

We’re continuing our profile series to help members learn more about the union representatives who serve them. These short introductions are meant to highlight the people working behind the scenes at SAFA to answer questions and advocate for members.

Introducing Earl Simpson

SAFA Position: Division I Officer

Members Represented: School of Construction, School of Manufacturing & Automation, School of Transportation

Earl is a SAIT alumnus, as well as a Millwright instructor at Sait for over 17 years and a SAFA division Representative for over 10 years. He has been on many committees including four Collective Agreement Bargaining committees, Workload committees, JAC (Joint Academic Council), and is currently on the Educational Allowance committee. Earl has been involved, either as a shop steward or executive member, in the different unions at his workplaces for over 35 years. His proudest moment as an instructor at SAIT was in 2017 when he was the trainer for Canada’s National Skills millwright competitor, who was awarded a medal of excellence at World Skills in Abu Dahbi. 

Earl and his wife Melissa have been together for 30 years, live in Crossfield, and have three grown children, all of whom live in the Calgary area. Earl’s passions include his family, travel, camping and riding and maintaining his fleet of motorcycles. 😊 


SAFA Social Event in February

Where: Loco Lou’s, 1324 16th Ave NW, Calgary

When: February 24th, 4:00pm – 7:30pm

You are invited to take a break, unwind, and connect with your colleagues at this SAFA member-only event. No registration is required. This event will include complimentary appetizers and 2 drink tickets per attendee.  Cash bar and complimentary taxi chits will be available.

Do you still need to pick up your t-shirt? We will have some available at the social event, or you can stop by the SAFA Office in Senator Burns, NN201.  You can also pick up a SAFA Raven pin to wear anytime!
