AI & SAFA Work: Call for Committee Members
As Artificial Intelligence continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, what does it mean for SAFA members’ jobs, workload, and professional autonomy? While SAIT committees explore AI as a teaching tool, SAFA is taking a different but equally urgent approach – focusing on the profound impact AI will have on the careers of instructors, counsellors, and librarians. To proactively address this impact, SAFA is establishing a committee to examine the broader labour and professional implications of AI on academic staff. This committee will:
- Collect data on how AI affects academic staff roles and responsibilities.
- Document concerns from an employee perspective.
- Identify challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
Insights gained from this initiative will position SAFA to effectively respond to future AI-related policies and initiatives introduced by the employer.
We Need Your Voice!
If you are concerned about how AI could shape the future of your work, we invite you to join this committee. Your expertise and perspective matter.
How to get involved
- Complete the attached SAFA Committee Nomination form. Within your background statement, indicate your:
- Experience or background in AI applications (preferred)
- Awareness of Academic Staff concerns related to AI
- Strong collaboration skills
- Interest in engaging with other national and international organizations
- Email the completed nomination form to safa@sait.ca by April 6, 2025.
Together, we can shape a future where AI supports—not replaces—educators. Join us and be part of the conversation that will define the next era of post-secondary education.
In Solidarity,
Amir Fard
SAFA Vice President
