Know Your Vacation Rights
We’ve recently heard reports of managers directing some members to take vacation in one- or two-day increments or assigning specific vacation dates without input. We want to remind you that you have rights when it comes to scheduling your vacation.
According to sections 32.07 and 32.08 of the Collective Agreement, vacation leave should ideally be taken in a block of 20 consecutive workdays, with any changes to that structure being at your request. Scheduling should be a collaborative discussion between you and your manager, resulting in a documented and mutually agreed-upon plan. Once that plan is in place, it can only be changed with your written agreement.
If you’re told you must take single days or specific dates without your input, that violates your rights! If this occurs, reach out to SAFA immediately. We’re here to support you in ensuring your vacation scheduling aligns with the collective agreement.
Your time, your choice – let’s keep it that way!
In solidarity,
