Open SAFA Positions – Get Involved!
This fall, SAFA is inviting members to get involved in union leadership and representation. Open positions are available on the Executive Council and on institutional committees, giving members an opportunity to contribute their experience, help shape SAFA priorities, and ensure member perspectives are represented in important discussions and decisions. Interested in one of the positions below? Please contact the SAFA Office by September 25, 2026, to request an application form.
Executive Council Positions: Executive Council members represent their programs or departments by raising concerns, sharing updates, and keeping communication flowing between members and the union. It’s an opportunity to strengthen SAFA’s collective voice and help keep the association responsive to members. The SAFA Executive Council meets on the first Tuesday of each month.
Open positions:
- 2 positions representing Hospitality & Tourism programs
- 1 position representing Academic Services programs
- 1 position representing Librarians & Counsellors
- 1 position representing School for Digital Technology programs
Institutional Committees: These committees give members an important voice in discussions that can have significant impacts on working conditions and academic issues. Members bring practical knowledge of day-to-day work and the realities of teaching and supporting students to committee work.
Open positions:
- Joint Faculty Workload Monitoring Group – General Member
The Workload Monitoring Group reviews faculty workload complaints and determines whether assigned workloads are reasonable and consistent with the Faculty Workload Guidelines. The group provides a formal, joint SAFA/SAIT process for resolving workload concerns, with decisions that are binding on SAIT, SAFA, and the faculty member involved. This group meets as needed, sometimes on short notice, so members must be able to prioritize meetings when complaints arise. Term: 2 years.
- Joint Faculty Workload Guidelines Committee – General Member
The Faculty Workload Guidelines Committee reviews and updates the guidelines used to support fair and consistent faculty workload assignments. The committee identifies areas that require clarification or improvement and makes recommendations to the Joint Advisory Committee. This committee meets at a minimum of once each semester. Term: 2 years.
- SAIT Artificial Intelligence Committee – General Member
The AI Committee brings together IT leadership, academic management, Saitsa student representatives, and SAFA representatives to help develop SAIT’s AI policies and practices. Applicants from SADT or those with strong AI experience are preferred. This committee meets regularly. Term: 1 year.
