September 27th: Update to Membership
Where to Find the Latest COVID Vaccine Reporting Info from SAIT
As a service to members, SAFA would like to highlight information that was recently forwarded from SAIT:
- To access campus on Monday, September 26th, you will need to complete your vaccine verification and upload proof of vaccination with two doses of a World Health Organization (WHO)-approved two-dose vaccine series, with the second dose at least 14 days prior through the SAITALERT app.
- SAIT notes “The Janssen vaccine is the only approved vaccine that requires only a single dose for a complete series. If an individual receives one dose of a Janssen vaccine at least two weeks prior, this would be considered sufficient to access campus.”
- If you’re unable to upload proof of vaccination through SAITALERT, carry it with you and be prepared to show it if asked.
- Without proof of vaccination at least 2 weeks prior, you must provide proof of a negative lab-based PCR or rapid COVID-19 test result taken within the previous 72 hours or an approved medical exemption or accommodation to access campus.
- Students or employees who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 are exempt from rapid antigen testing for 60 days from the date of their positive test result. Proof of the previous positive COVID-19 test must be submitted for validation to Accessibility Services (for students) and to Employee Services (for employees) as part of an application for medical exemption.
**This information is accurate as of Saturday, September 25th. Please check SAIT’s Vaccine Verification and Rapid Testing daily as information changes rapidly.
Does the Vaccine Mandate Violate My Rights?
SAFA has asked our legal counsel to provide an expert opinion on the validity of the COVID Vaccine Mandates in relation to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Counsel concluded that a “well-drafted campus vaccination mandate” will not violate an individual’s Rights. The complete legal essay is attached for members who would like additional information.
