Update – Bargaining Survey
Two weeks ago, we asked you to share your thoughts on negotiation topics via the bargaining survey. Over 280 members returned the survey, with these results:
- Members choose Work/Life balance (59%) as a more important bargaining topic, compared to Salary increase.
- However, Salary is still one of the top four issues, which also include Workload, Job Security, and Benefits.
- Members were less concerned by issues related to Intellectual Property Rights, Scholarly Activity, and Education Allowance.
We also received a large number of comments about your resilience, your tenacity, and your stressful working conditions during this fall semester. Please know we are reading all of your comments and they are powerful stories. While we continue to analyze the results, some of the themes that have already emerged include the need for a review of benefits, struggles with workload, and concerns about the fair treatment of adjunct instructors. If you submitted contact information with your comments, we will follow up with you in the coming weeks.
This survey was the first in a series that the SAFA negotiations team will be sending out. Based on these results, please watch for future surveys around workload, benefits, and adjunct working conditions. We ask that you take the time to respond to these surveys, as the information you submit will inform the decisions made at the negotiation table. You will also have the opportunity to share your thoughts at the upcoming SAFA Townhall meetings – more information will be sent out by your division representative.
In solidarity, and on behalf of the SAFA negotiations team,
