May 1st: Introducing Craig Coolahan, SAFA LRO
Introducing Craig Coolahan, SAFA LRO
Hello, SAFA members. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as your new Labour Relations Officer. My name is Craig Coolahan. I have a BA in English and a Bachelor of Journalism. I made my living as a writer and editor for many years, mainly as a technical writer, and transitioned to a full-time labour relations role in 2012 as the Business Representative for the United Utility Workers’ Association. Prior to being hired as the LRO, I spent four years as the Senior Steward for the film and television union IATSE. I also spent a term as the MLA for Calgary-Klein.
I am thrilled to be working for SAFA and to be in a post-secondary environment. I believe that SAIT, and institutions like it, will be critical for training and retraining the 21st century workforce. Essential in the equation, of course, are the faculty and support staff. And that’s where I come in – to ensure that SAFA members are supported behind the scenes, that the collective agreement is adhered to, and to continue to press for better working conditions and remuneration. I take the work of member advocate seriously, and view that as the LRO’s primary role.
I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. My door is always open. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
In solidarity,
Craig Coolahan
Labour Relations Officer, SAFA
